Furniture and IKEA Assembly for Richmond Hill Homes

Furniture assembly in Richmond Hill often lands in a room with a sloped or vaulted ceiling. The 1990s houses through Bayview Hill and Devonsleigh have generous primary bedrooms where the ceiling climbs across the room, and a full-height wardrobe only works on one wall.

I check that before building rather than after. The same goes for the study and library shelving people add later: measured, plumb, anchored into studs, then the packaging leaves with me. The quote is free and the price is agreed before I start.

The larger 1990s Richmond Hill houses have shape to them, with vaulted and tray ceilings in the primary bedroom, angled walls in the bonus room over the garage, and window walls eating the space a wardrobe wants. A full-height unit usually has exactly one wall it can stand against, and finding that wall is half the visit. Up in Oak Ridges the older houses and their additions are less predictable behind the drywall, so I locate studs properly instead of trusting a sixteen-inch guess.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Tell me the pieces

Send the product names or a link for each item, plus how many of each. IKEA article numbers are ideal. That tells me the build time and whether a piece needs wall fixing or extra care getting it upright.

2
Boxes in the room

Have the flat packs in the room where the furniture is going, with a clear floor space beside them. Carrying a built wardrobe through a doorway rarely works, so the build happens where the piece will live.

3
Built, checked, anchored

Parts are laid out and counted first, then the carcass goes together and gets checked for square before the back panel is fixed. Doors and drawers are adjusted, feet levelled, and anything tall is strapped to the wall.

4
Packaging taken away

Boxes get flattened, foam and plastic bagged, and the lot leaves with me unless you want to keep it. Spare fittings are bagged and left with the instructions in case you move the piece later.

What Affects the Price in Richmond Hill

Build time is what you are paying for, and that varies more than people expect. A bedside table is quick. A tall wardrobe run with sliding doors is a serious afternoon. The number of pieces, the size of each one, whether the boxes are already in the right room, and how much wall anchoring is needed all count. Disassembly for a move usually takes less time than the original build. Whatever the list, the price or hourly rate is settled before I open a box.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Richmond Hill

My bedroom ceiling slopes. Can a full-height wardrobe still work in there?

It can, but usually only against the tall wall, and that decides the layout of the whole room. I measure at the exact spot the unit will stand, crown moulding included, before a box is opened. If the numbers come out tight, a lower frame with separate top boxes on the sloped side gives you the storage without the fight.
