Interior Painting for Richmond Hill Homes

Interior painting in Richmond Hill has to survive a lot of daylight. The homes through Bayview Hill, Mill Pond and Oak Ridges have big windows and tall rooms, and that light shows up every shortcut in a paint job, from an unprimed patch to a lap mark on a long wall.

So I work to the light rather than against it. Repairs get primed, walls get rolled a full height at a time, and I talk through sheen with you before the colour is bought. The quote is free, the price is set first, and I do the work myself.

Bayview Hill and Oak Ridges houses have big two-storey windows, and that side light is unforgiving. Sun raking across a long wall shows every lap mark and every patch that was not primed, so on those rooms I keep a wet edge, roll floor to ceiling in one pass and lean toward a flat or matte sheen that scatters light instead of bouncing it. Skylight shafts in the same houses are tall, narrow and awkward, and they get cut in by hand.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Walk the rooms

I look at every surface you want painted, check the trim, ceilings and past repairs, note what needs filling or priming, and talk through sheen and colour with you. Photos sent ahead of the visit speed the quote up.

2
Cover and prepare

Furniture moves to the centre and gets sheeted, floors are protected, plates and hardware come off, then holes are filled, joints are caulked and every patch is primed so nothing flashes through the finish.

3
Cut in and roll

Ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors, two coats on each, keeping a wet edge and rolling back into the cut line so the finish reads the same right across the wall.

4
Reassemble and inspect

Hardware and plates go back on, the room is put together, rubbish leaves with me, and I walk the space with you in daylight so anything that is not right gets touched up before I go.

What Affects the Price in Richmond Hill

Painting is priced by the surface, not by the name of the room. A bedroom with smooth walls, sound trim and a light colour going over a light colour moves quickly. The same room takes far longer with cracked plaster, a dark colour underneath, tall ceilings, heavy furniture to shift, or oil-based trim that has to be scuffed and primed before it will hold paint. Supplying the paint myself adds material cost with receipts, and you are welcome to supply your own. Either way the price is agreed before I start.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Richmond Hill

Why do the walls in my sunlit Richmond Hill family room show every roller mark?

Because strong side light exaggerates any change in texture or sheen. A patch that was not primed drinks paint differently and shows as a dull spot, and a roller that dried before the next pass leaves a lap line. On those tall bright walls I prime all repairs, work a full height at a time and usually suggest a matte sheen, which hides far more than eggshell does.
