Furniture and IKEA Assembly for Markham Homes

Furniture assembly in Markham frequently means a three-storey freehold townhouse. In Cornell, Wismer and Greensborough the staircase runs up the middle of the house and turns at every floor, and the bedroom wanting the wardrobe sits two flights above the garage.

So I carry flat and build on the floor the piece is staying on. It is the only sensible way in those houses, and it saves your railings and drywall corners along the way. At the end the cartons come back down flattened and leave with me.

Markham's newer freehold towns are tall and narrow, so everything about this job is vertical. Garage and entry sit on the ground level, living space in the middle, bedrooms on top, and the stair turns twice on the way. A built bed frame or a six-drawer dresser will not make that trip, so the panels go up in the carton and the build happens in the bedroom. The older Unionville and Milliken two-storeys are easier, though their bedroom doorways are narrower than what builders use now.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Tell me the pieces

Send the product names or a link for each item, plus how many of each. IKEA article numbers are ideal. That tells me the build time and whether a piece needs wall fixing or extra care getting it upright.

2
Boxes in the room

Have the flat packs in the room where the furniture is going, with a clear floor space beside them. Carrying a built wardrobe through a doorway rarely works, so the build happens where the piece will live.

3
Built, checked, anchored

Parts are laid out and counted first, then the carcass goes together and gets checked for square before the back panel is fixed. Doors and drawers are adjusted, feet levelled, and anything tall is strapped to the wall.

4
Packaging taken away

Boxes get flattened, foam and plastic bagged, and the lot leaves with me unless you want to keep it. Spare fittings are bagged and left with the instructions in case you move the piece later.

What Affects the Price in Markham

Build time is what you are paying for, and that varies more than people expect. A bedside table is quick. A tall wardrobe run with sliding doors is a serious afternoon. The number of pieces, the size of each one, whether the boxes are already in the right room, and how much wall anchoring is needed all count. Disassembly for a move usually takes less time than the original build. Whatever the list, the price or hourly rate is settled before I open a box.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Markham

The wardrobe is going on the third floor of a townhouse. Will it fit up the stairs?

Built, almost never. Flat, nearly always. I take the cartons up before opening anything, lay a blanket down in the bedroom and put the piece together where it will stand. That keeps the railings and drywall corners intact and avoids that moment where something is wedged on a landing. Tell me the model and I will confirm the carton sizes first.
